Web App and Desktop App
How the web app and the desktop app differ, which computers are supported, voice input, and requests from your phone.
Last updated: 2026-09-29
In the web app, which you open in your computer's browser ( https://www.addness.com ), you can use every screen: goals, ToDos, chat, and more. The desktop app opens the same Addness screens in an app installed on your computer. The main features exclusive to the app are these three: personal LINE integration, voice input (Addness Voice), and requests from your phone to the AI on your computer.
On screens and in guides, the desktop app is also called "Addness Desktop" or "Addness Agent". They are all the same app.
The web app is enough for everyday work. Install the desktop app only if you want personal LINE, voice input, or requests from your phone to the AI on your computer.
How the web app and the desktop app differ
| What you can do | Web app (browser) | Desktop app |
|---|---|---|
| Screens for goals, ToDos, chat, notifications, and more | Yes | Yes (same screens as the web app) |
| Connect AI (Claude Code, Codex) to Addness (MCP integration) | Yes | Yes |
| Personal LINE integration (AI reads and sends your LINE messages) | No | Yes (→ LINE integration) |
| Voice input (Addness Voice). Speak into input fields of apps other than Addness too | No | Yes (see the table below for supported computers) |
| Receive "Ask AI" requests from your phone with Claude Code or Codex on your computer | No | Yes |
| Notifications | Browser notifications | Computer notifications |
You don't need the desktop app for MCP integration. The steps to install an AI app and connect it to Addness are in Install an AI app and connect it to Addness.
Supported computers
| What you want to use | Mac (Apple silicon, M1 or later) | Windows 10 / 11 |
|---|---|---|
| Install the desktop app | Yes | Yes |
| Personal LINE integration | Yes | In testing (follow the guidance on the app's screen) |
| Voice input (Addness Voice) | Yes, with macOS 26 or later | May not be available (see "Voice input" below) |
| Requests from your phone to AI on your computer | Yes | Yes |
- Intel-based Mac: The Mac version offered on the official site is for Apple silicon (M1 or later) Macs. Personal LINE is not available on Intel-based Macs (the app shows 「このPCでは利用できません(対応: Apple Silicon Mac / Windows x64)」, meaning "Not available on this PC (supported: Apple Silicon Mac / Windows x64)")
- Windows: A Windows warning (SmartScreen) may appear when you install it. On company computers, you may not be able to install or run it. In that case, talk to your IT team
Install the desktop app
- On your computer, open the desktop app page and download the Mac or Windows version
- Mac: Open the downloaded file and drag the Addness icon into the "Applications" folder. Windows: Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen steps
- Open the app and log in with your Addness account. When a browser opens, log in and press "Return to desktop app"
Log in with the same account you use on the web. Requests from your phone and personal LINE work with the same account and the same organization that you use with your AI and your phone.
New versions are downloaded automatically. When 「更新して再起動」 (Update and restart) appears in the app, press it to switch to the new version. On a Mac, choose "Addness" → "Check for Updates..." in the menu bar to check for a new version right away. After an update, your login, settings, and LINE integration stay as they were.
Voice input (Addness Voice)
It listens while you hold down a key, or while you speak hands-free, and turns your speech into text. The text goes not only into Addness but also straight into input fields of other apps.
- It requires a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 26 or later
- The first time you use it, choose the key that starts listening, and allow microphone and input access when asked
- Open the settings from "Addness" → 「音声入力の設定...」 (Voice input settings) in the Mac menu bar. They are split into 「基本」 (Basic), 「入力」 (Input), 「言葉」 (Words), and 「履歴」 (History)
- Windows: The system requirements on the official site say 「WindowsではVoiceを使えません」 ("Voice is not available on Windows"). If you can't open the voice input settings in the Windows app, use it on a Mac
Hide the idle bar
While you aren't using voice input, a thin bar (「待機中のフローティングバー」, the idle floating bar) may appear at the bottom of the screen. To hide it, change the setting as follows.
- Open "Addness" → 「音声入力の設定...」 (Voice input settings) in the Mac menu bar
- Choose 「入力」 (Input)
- For 「待機中のフローティングバー」 (Idle floating bar), choose 「表示しない」 (Don't show)
From version 0.2.63 (September 27, 2026), the bar is hidden by default.
Send requests from your phone to the AI on your computer
"Ask AI" in the Addness app on your phone sends requests to Claude Code or Codex on your computer. The desktop app open on your computer receives them.
- The desktop app is installed on your computer and open
- It is logged in with the same Addness account and the same organization as your phone
- Your computer is awake (if it is asleep, the request starts when it wakes up)
To set this up, ask the AI on your computer to do the goal "Ask your AI from your phone," and the AI will set it up. If requests don't arrive, see "You can't ask from your phone" in MCP integration.
When the web settings say "coming soon" or "not connected"
Whether your personal LINE is connected is recorded only inside the desktop app on your computer. In Addness opened in a browser, My Settings › Integrations keeps showing how to install the app, even after you connect. To check whether you are connected, open the same screen in the desktop app (→ "Settings display on the web" in LINE integration).
